Fractional CFO and back office · San Diego · Booking for January 2027

The finance team your company hasn’t hired yet.

We close your books every month and send you a 13-week cash forecast every Monday. When a big decision comes up, like a key hire, a price change or a bank loan, you have a CFO at the table. One monthly fee, for owner-led companies doing $1M to $25M a year.

What we do

A bookkeeper, a CPA in April, and nobody in between.

That gap is where cash surprises come from. Nobody is looking more than a month ahead, so the owner ends up acting as CFO on nights and weekends. We take over that seat, along with the books underneath it.

i.

Books and back office

Clean books every month, plus the invoicing and bill pay that keep them accurate.

  • Bookkeeping and reconciliations, closed by the 15th
  • Invoices sent, and late payers followed up
  • Bills lined up for you to approve, never paid without it
  • Payroll coordination and a calendar for sales tax and licenses
ii.

Cash and reporting

You see the tight weeks two months before they arrive, while there is still time to act.

  • 13-week cash forecast, updated every Monday
  • Monthly financials, explained in plain English
  • Margin by customer, job or product
  • Budget versus actual
iii.

CFO counsel

Someone to check the math before you sign the lease, hire the manager or take the loan.

  • Pricing, hiring and large purchases
  • Banks, lenders and credit lines
  • Preparing for a raise, an acquisition or a sale
  • Board and investor reporting

Example · the forecast you get every Monday

A cash gap you spot in March is a decision. In May, it’s an emergency.

Each Monday you get a rolling 13-week view of cash coming in and going out. We mark the lowest week ahead and tell you what we would do about it.

Ending cash by week · example company$170K
$50K $100K $150K $200K W1 W2 W3 W4 W5 W6 W7 W8 W9 W10 W11 W12 W13 $61K low

Low point $61K in week 7. Suggested fix: move two customers to net 15 and push one equipment purchase to week 9.

Why the name

Bad surprises stay small. Good ones get room to run.

In finance, a convex position is one where the losses are capped and the gains are not. We run your finances the same way: enough cash cushion that a slow month stays a slow month, and numbers clear enough that you know when to push. It works best for companies like these.

Pricing

Prices on the page, not after three calls.

Three-month minimum, then month to month. We don’t prepare tax returns or do audits. Your CPA keeps that work, and gets clean books from us.

Cash & Profit Diagnostic

$1,500

Two weeks inside your books and bank data. You get the five fixes worth the most money, each with a dollar estimate. The fee is credited toward a plan if you start one.

CFO Partner

$3,500 / month

CFO time without the back office, for a company preparing to raise, borrow, buy another business or sell.

Projects

From $2,500

One-off work: a forecast model, a pricing and margin study, a lender package, acquisition diligence or catch-up bookkeeping.

Each plan covers one legal entity. Catch-up bookkeeping, additional entities and unusually high transaction volume are quoted separately. We work from read-only bank access: you approve and release every payment, and we never hold signing authority on your accounts.

How an engagement starts

From first call to a weekly forecast in about a month.

The first call

Thirty minutes, no deck

Bring the money question that’s on your mind. By the end you’ll know whether we can help and which plan fits. If we aren’t the right firm, we’ll say so.

Weeks one and two

Diagnostic or onboarding

We get read-only access to your books and bank, catch up anything that’s behind, and find the fixes worth the most money.

Every month after

A steady rhythm

Books closed by the 15th and a new forecast every Monday. You get a standing CFO meeting each month (two on Complete), and when something comes up between meetings, an answer that week.

Founder Track

A startup CFO for $750 a month, plus a small equity stake.

For pre-seed and seed founders who need numbers an investor will trust, before they can pay for a CFO. You get clean books, burn and runway, a financial model, investor updates and a monthly CFO meeting. The cash fee is 70% below our Core plan. The equity is only worth something if your company is.

Apply for Founder Track

By application, and never more than four companies at a time. We don’t raise money for you, and nothing we charge depends on how much you raise.

Who you work with

You'll work with me, not a rotating cast of associates.

I run treasury and FP&A for a large company with cash spread across dozens of legal entities. I’m also CFO and co-owner of a San Diego catering company, so I know what a cash gap feels like on a Friday afternoon. Most of those gaps could have been seen eight weeks out.

Bookkeeping is done in-house by our own staff, on systems I set up and check. The analysis is mine, and I’m the one in your meetings.

“If I can’t explain your numbers to you in plain English, I haven’t done my job.”
